Nestled at the headwaters of the Wild and Scenic Loxahatchee River, Headwaters Jupiter is an eco-retreat unlike any other. The property is encased in Florida-native plant life, organic gardens, hiking and biking trails, and most importantly the river itself. The main lodge is a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home constructed from up-cycled and re-purposed used ocean-going shipping containers. The worlds ports and wharehouse districts are chocked full of these shipping containers used to ship goods via ocean tankers all over the globe, but only a fraction of them are actually in use and they have a limited “shelf-life” for shipping use. This creates a huge surplus of these amazing building blocks sitting unused or out of commission in lots across the country, and thus the need to re-purpose and make use of the shipping containers for housing and lodging options has begun to take off as a viable alternative to traditional building materials. The fact that these air tight and near indestructible shipping containers are built to handle extreme marine environments and harsh weather, makes hurricane-prone South Florida a perfect location for this type of architecture, also known as “cargotecture”. Headwaters Jupiter currently is the only approved residence constructed from these containers, and although of unique construction and design, you will be amazed at the welcoming feeling and sense of well-being you will find during your stay with us.
Aside from the unique nature of the main lodge, guests have full access to bikes, kayaks and canoes that can accommodate all of those staying on property. We also work very closely with the Jupiter Outdoor Center, whom can provide guides to get you out into the wilderness and feel informed along the way. Riverbend Park is also directly across the river from Headwaters and you can spend hours paddling the historic sections of the Loxahatchee or biking the trails.
Our property also puts you in beautiful Jupiter Florida! There are countless dining options, recreational activities, shopping outlets, local attractions, and entertainment venues within minutes of the property. You can find out all about these activities here…
The only thing as rare and unique as container living in Palm Beach County is the river it is on, the Loxahatchee:
A rather rare recognition, the National System protects only 12,598 miles of 203 rivers nationwide, which represents less than one-quarter of one percent of the all the country’s rivers. The Loxahatchee River is one of only two Wild and Scenic rivers in the state, representing a mere one-fifth of one percent of Florida’s 25,949 miles of river, making this title truly a mark of distinction.
No matter how you enjoy your time at Headwaters Jupiter, one thing is for certain, you will enjoy a unique experience surrounded by the very best Jupiter has to offer! Book your stay today!
Here’s what one of our guests recently wrote:
“If you live in Florida and are looking for a great “Stay-cation” or you are visiting from out of state then Headwaters Jupiter is definitely the place to stay. It is a unique concept constructed from shipping containers with all the conveniences and furnishings of home; kitchen, bathrooms etc. I was raised in Florida, moving here in 1964 before I-95 and the housing west of the turnpike were built. Staying at the Dwell Pad reminded me of that time; It is Old Florida at it’s best. It is nestled along the Loxahatchee River and across from the beautiful Riverbend Park. We, my fiancée and his two young children, went for a weekend and had a really great time and are looking forward to going back, SOON.
Headwaters Jupiter is very peaceful. No TV, no computer although wifi is at the property. Just Mother Nature and Old Florida. You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. Although, there is a Publix grocery and restaurants only minutes away. Plus, the beautiful Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and beach are only a 30 minute drive. We enjoyed all the amenities the Dwell Pad has to offer; bikes, kayaks, fishing and a huge fire-pit. We rode the bikes on the trails of Riverbend Park. What a beautiful place. No wonder why they call it the “Jewel of the Palm Beach County Parks system” winning a national award in 2010. The entrance to the park is right down the street from Headwaters Jupiter and is a must see whether biking or walking. We then took the kayaks out, launched literally in the back yard, on the waterway of Riverbend Park. WOW, what an adventure. So fun and again, so beautiful. The weather was absolutely perfect (as it usually is the middle of January in Florida). The scenery is breathtaking; cypress trees, egrets, herons, eagles, turtles, bass, snook, Florida wild life galore and people fishing (and catching) along the banks. Unbelievable. We also went fishing right of the dock in the backyard and within minutes my fiancee’s ten year old son caught a really nice sized bass. Some folks say it’s one of the best fishing spots in all of Florida. In the evening we relaxed and enjoyed sitting by the fire in the huge fire-pit.
I also recommend during your stay that you pack a lunch and visit the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and while you are there stop by the Jupiter Outdoor Center for another waterway adventure. You can rent paddle-boards and kayaks where you will share the waterway with dolphin, sea turtles and manatee. Jupiter is one of Florida’s most beautiful cities. It’s worth exploring. Headwaters Jupiter is a great place to take the family or for a couples retreat. You will not be disappointed. ENJOY.
A Very Happy Visitor(s)
